Crime of the Millenium
If you didn't know allready....? I won the Top
Recruit award on my training course in 1992. Tradition has it
that the
'Top recruit' is presented with a Silver Firemans Axe.. but not
me, didn't know why then and still don't know now. However
subsequent Top recruits did get an axe, so this miffed me a
little. About two years ago I mentioned this to my Station
Officer,"I'll look into it" he said, and he did,
promises were made and deadlines passed, still no axe. Then on
January 7th 2002 My ADO called at Mansfield Road and said"
Here you are, I said I'd get you one and I have,
congratulations" he shook my hand and gave me my Silver Axe,
four months short of ten years late.......
I was so proud I put it on top of the TV for all to behold.
And here it is.........

Or rather was, as you can see some horrible Axe-napper nicked it during the night, and left the ransom demand.

So there we have it I dread to think where my nice new shiny silver axe is now, tied up in some dark smelly locker I'll bet. Some friends said call their bluff, don't pay up but I'm not sure, it's too much of a gamble, after all ten years is a long time and we only had a few hours together. Its going to take me a while to raise the nine bun ransom but I'll do my best, It will be worth it to get my axe back................
I'll let you know what happens.
Update:11/01/2002
Just recieved this through the post :

looks like they're serious !!!
Update:16/01/2002
Deal done, ransom paid in full, now finally I have my axe!!

Thanks to an anonymous e-mailed tip off from someone I joined with I've got a good idea who the axe-napper is and as they say 'Revenge is a dish best served as a tin of baked beans in someones bed'.
To Be Continued............
