South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service covers an area of 600 square miles, and protects a population of 1.3 million people. The service is staffed by approximately 1000 uniformed and 120 non-uniformed personnel.
There are 24 fire sations and a total of 31 fire engines. The Brigade handles in excess of 40,000 calls each year.
The Brigade also has a responsibility for Fire Safety with over 24,000 inspections being carried out each year. Additionally other officers work in departments dealing with training, personnel matters and technical development.
